A Home Away From Home: Guest Review of the Lake House Flat
At Event Essex, we know a stay is about more than a bed for the night. It’s the whole experience of being here. So when our very first guest review of the Lake House Flat came in, we couldn’t wait to share it.
Tucked away in Wivenhoe Park, right on the University of Essex campus, the Lake House Flat has quietly become a favourite. It’s the place we send guests looking for something a little different: a proper home from home, lake views included.
What makes staying here memorable is the contrast. The University of Essex is renowned for its striking 1960s Brutalist architecture: concrete towers, elevated walkways, and bold interconnected spaces designed to bring people together. From the flat, you get a front-row view of this fascinating piece of architectural history.
Step just beyond the concrete, though, and the atmosphere changes completely. Over 200 acres of tranquil parkland unfold, with stunning views across Kingfisher Lake. The result is a peaceful, colourful retreat, set within one of the UK’s most distinctive university campuses.
What our guest had to say

Why stay at the Lake House Flat?
For young families, it’s a place where the kids can spread out and you can finally unpack properly. For couples, it’s a proper escape.
Either way, you’re never far from campus, or everything nearby, just a short walk from your door.
