Colchester Campus: how to find us
University of Essex
If approaching the University from London and the South via the A12, take the exit marked Colchester Central. If approaching from Ipswich and the North on the A12, take the exit marked Colchester. Follow the signs to the University. Once on campus you should follow the signs to the Visitors Car Park. You may park in any of the car parks providing you are displaying a valid parking permit.
Trains run between London (Liverpool Street) and Colchester (North Station) at approximately half-hourly intervals and the journey takes under an hour. Services also connect with Colchester from Norwich, Ipswich, Felixstowe, Harwich and Clacton/Walton. (National Rail Enquiries Online.)
Regular Services to Colchester Bus Station operate from most parts of Britain, either direct or through London. The 133 is an hourly service which runs between the University and Stansted Airport. (Firstgroup buses.)
There are taxi ranks at Colchester North Station, Colchester Bus Station and in the town centre. The journey to the University normally takes about ten minutes and you should ask for the University Visitors’ Car Park.
The University is served by the following Firstgroup buses:
From Colchester Railway Station: 61, 62, 78 and 78A to Valley Road;
From Colchester Bus Station: 61, 62, 74, 76, 78 and 78A.
Ask for the ‘South Courts stop’.
Southend Campus: how to find us
University of Essex
Southend is just half an hour from the M25 and there is town centre parking close to our Campus.
To reach the Campus by car, follow signs from the A13 or A127 for the Town Centre. A map of the Southend Campus is available online. The closest car parks to the Campus are underneath University Square student accommodation, which can be accessed from College Way, and underneath South Essex College, which can be accessed from Elmer Approach.
Train services to London from Southend take under an hour.
Southend is served by two major railway lines:
c2c – operates services from Southend Central train station to London Fenchurch Street. Southend Central is next to our Southend Campus.
‘Greater Anglia’ – operates services from Southend Victoria train station to London Liverpool Street. Southend Victoria is a short walk from our Southend Campus.
As the Campus is located in the town centre, most local buses stop nearby throughout the day and at weekends.
National Express coach services to Southend Bus Station operate from all over Britain. Direct coaches to Southend run every hour from Stansted airport and on a regular basis from other UK airports.
London Southend Airport
You can fly from a number of European destinations into London Southend Airport which is three miles from the Southend Campus and easily accessible by; bus or train.
London Stansted Airport
If you are arriving at Stansted Airport, you can reach Southend in an hour by car or taxi. You can also catch the X30 Aircoach from the airport to Southend Bus Station.
There are cycle racks outside The Forum Southend-on-Sea, the Gateway Building and Clifftown Studios and inside University Square, with other cycle parking available throughout the town centre.
